Life is Just a Blimp of Cherries

The Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Denver is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year, and we are happy to be part of it. Our first big art show, ever, was Cherry Creek, when we were named an “emerging artist” (as a two-person collaboration) and received assistance, advice and even the loan of a tent the first year. Such an amazing help!

To thank Cherry Creek for their support, and pay it forward, we created a special sparkle globe for this year’s auction. Proceeds from the auction of this item, and many other beautiful donated artworks, will support arts education programs in Colorado. Win/win!

Bidding has started – enjoy!

Henry Pulls Some Strings

The puppetmaster, his name is Henry. Dance, people, dance.

Another Door Opens

The inspiration was the word “threshold.” The deliberate act of crossing from one place into another. A door, a doorway, a beginning.

But brick by brick, it took on deeper symbolism. Another door opens … into what?

We open the doors, we peek out, we step through. But until that moment, we never really know what’s out there.

One of a kind sparkle/snow globe. Tiny brick doorway with figures looking toward their future. When shaken, glass globe fills with copper and bronze metallic dust. Miniature brick detail on base. Images and design copyright (c) 2021 Camryn Forrest Designs, Denver, Colorado USA.

Coming Home to Sky Island City

Imagine a city in the sky, a floating island of bustling industry. Airships carry passengers and supplies from land to land, from cloud to cloud. The island is a blink in the eye of the universe; it is the entire world for those who live there.

Does the world come to visit the Sky Island City, or does the city ride the movement of the sky, and venture far and wide to visit the world?

See “Sky Island City” and other custom snow globes a the steampunk exhibition “Odd Beauty” at the Southampton Arts Center, Southampton New York, September 23 through November 12, 2017.Ā  The Odd Beauty Exhibition is curated by artist/author Art Donovan.

Gearly Beloved

Step one, make a tiny hat, then add tinier goggles.

Step Two, float a headless goggled hat, a bowler to be specific, in the lazy liquid of a snow globe.

Step Three, shake the globe. When shaken, fill the liquid with swirling dark mystery, and a gaggle of tiny gear-shaped metallic bits, and one — just one — black top hat confetti piece.Ā  (Yes, it’s there, in the photos, but you have to really want to see it.)

“Gearly Beloved” one of a kind sparkle snow globe with sculpted miniature hat and mixed media goggles. Not recommend for looking at the solar eclipse, but perfectly effective for non-solar uses that don’t involve bright sunshine or eyeballs.Ā  Custom snow globe design and images copyright (c) 2017, Camryn Forrest Designs, Denver, Colorado USA.

Black Sails

Have you ever heard the saying, “that ship has sailed?”
I planned to take a series of fabulous photos of our newest airship snow globe when we got back to Colorado after showing at the spring One of a Kind show in Chicago, but …

that ship has sailed. It was purchased and is off on a new adventure, somewhere in Illinois.

Here are a few snaps we took during the making of “Black Sails” that may inspire us to make another someday.

“Black Sails” – one of a kind glitter snow globe, with tiny airship over a sailing ship with sails made of black cloth. When shaken the globe glitters with darker glitter, reminiscent of thunder and lightning. Hand-painted base with metallic patina effect and brass rivets.
