Gearly Beloved

Step one, make a tiny hat, then add tinier goggles.

Step Two, float a headless goggled hat, a bowler to be specific, in the lazy liquid of a snow globe.

Step Three, shake the globe. When shaken, fill the liquid with swirling dark mystery, and a gaggle of tiny gear-shaped metallic bits, and one — just one — black top hat confetti piece.  (Yes, it’s there, in the photos, but you have to really want to see it.)

Not recommend for looking at the solar eclipse, but perfectly effective for non-solar uses that don’t involve bright sunshine or eyeballs.  Custom snow globe design and images copyright (c) 2017, Camryn Forrest Designs, Denver, Colorado USA.

Winter … Is Coming

When you are standing in the record-breaking heat of summer, looking for a spot of shade at an arts festival, but finding mostly asphalt and sunshine, remind yourself …

Truly Madly Deeply

Oh, the irony! When your feels are so true and deep, and yet so murky and muddled.  When certainty and doubt dance together. When your highs are sparkly iridescence and your lows … your lows are both sweet and dark, swirling the abyss, the edge of madness, the whisper of bliss.

But what do we really know, other than what we touch and feel? There’s a little madness in those deep feelings, the mix of crazy and joy that says “trust this, it will take you places.”

Then a moment of clarity: Truly Madly Deeply.

“Truly Madly Deeply” is a one of a kind snow/sparkle globe with hand-beaded and embellished golden glass heart, stationed resolutely and firmly in a swirl of liquid, sparkling with pewter, gold and platinum-colored microdust and shimmering metallic glitter. An Airship in a Snow Globe …

Who was it who said with such certainty  “steampunk and snow globes do not go together?”

Well, I beg to differ.

Octo-Thought

My mind is a messy tangle of tangents, reaching out every which way.  You’ve heard someone say they enter a room and can’t remember what they wanted? That happens in my thoughts: I reach in for one process and come out with an invention, or a pun, or a memory that shakes my core.

What? What were you saying? Oh, shakes my core with happiness, or was it fear, or was it simmering resentment. I can’t remember now, I’m thinking about how many flavors of ice cream there are, really. And my favorite dog, once upon a time. And how I should have sent that thank-you note when it still mattered.

If you are given to such imagery, perhaps your mind is like an octopus, with reaching, pulsing tentacles, touching one thought and repelling another. Selective thoughts, random memories. We call it, Octo-Thought.

To Hell and Back

For many people, the next road trip is only an excuse to secure another snow globe for the ever-expanding collection.

Prompted by the fascinating request to “Go to hell, and bring me back a snow globe,” we did just that.

A snow globe holding a hand, holding a snow globe which is holding a hand. It’s like M.C. Escher and Stephen King joined forces on the set of the Matrix. Okay, that’s a stretch, but a tiny real snow globe in the hand inside a small snow globe in another hand, inside a snow globe in YOUR hand … see what we did there?  Snow globe times infinity.
